Q: bootcamp no sound win 10

HI

Lately, i've installed windows 8.1 on my macbook pro running osx mavericks 10.9.5 and then i've upgraded it to windows 10 using windows free update. The problem is : now in my windows 10 partition, i can't figure how to make sound working nor the apple HFS+ read only drive so my mac partition can show up in windows explorer. I've tried several thing including : run boocamp assistant from bootcamp 6 version, didn't work, i've also tried to run the driver installer for the sound manually (realtek setup find in the bootcamp folder of my usb key made to install win8.1), but the setup get stuck at installing these so called realtek drivers. I opened up terminal to end the process so bootcamp installer can continue to the end, but not luck at all. Every time I check for error on the sound windows tell me to restart to make the modification take effect, but I did that several times and still no sound. Now i'm running out of idea. Even in apple website, they said that my model is able to run win10 (macbook pro mid-2012 model, non-retina). Am i missing something? or is it the apple driver didn't get any update yet to support windows 10?

Regards,

Simon.

P.-s. I don't know if it's relevant, but to make me choose to boot either on mac or windows partition at startup, I've installed rEFInd boot manager on my macbook.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

    No I don't really need rEFInd. In msconfig, however, under general tab, my boot mode is set to selective mode. In the device manager, all I see is the high definition audio controller with the ! mark even if I enable ''show hidden devices'' unfortunately.

    Can you run msinfo32 and find out the BIOS mode setting?

    1. You can use pnputil.exe to clean the Windows driver store for all audio devices and try to re-install the Cirrus drivers.

    2. Once W10 has been installed and activated, W10 can be clean installed as often as necessary on the same hardware. If you want to do this, do you have a good back up of your files and the ability to re-install applications?

    I tried pnputil.exe with administrator rights and reinstall cirrus drivers, but this still didn't work. I can try to reinstall win10 if you think this can help solve the problem, i don't mind wiping out the data on this partition. Having a good and up-to-date backup is always a must-have and I do have one.

    If a clean installation of W10 is an option, I suggest trying it. Do not interrupt the Windows installer using Alt/Option, if you try a clean install.

    ok so i managed to reinstall windows 8.1 But only in UEFI mode by pressing the alt/option key because without doing so, my computer can't boot on the bootcamp usb key. Just like I said my macbook can't boot on legacy mode, only UEFI.

    Can you remove W8.1, reset SMC and NVRAM, and test if the BIOS mode installation work?

    I read the whole thread and it seems I am experiencing every single issue exactly the same as simonjl94 and tried the same solutions without success.

    I've dig through multiple forums in order to try to get my Windows install to work with BCA, but I am also only able to get it to work with EFI boot. I can't recall how many times I have reinstalled Windows in order to to fix this issue, trying every single possible fix I found.

    I have a MacBook Pro 13inch mid 2012.

    I will be following this thread and contribute to it if I see found something new or if I have something relevant to share.

    I have a new SSD in my 2012 MBP. Before I put W8.1 back on it, I will experiment with W10 and report my findings. I do not use rEFInd.

    Equipment used - 2012 13-in non-Retina MBP, Samsung 512g 850Pro, SanDisk Cruzer 16g USB2 flash drive,  El Capitan 10.11.4, no rEFInd.

    Downloaded Win10 ISO from Microsoft. Clean installed W10. Created the USB using the first two options of BC Assistant. Used BCA and the USB Installer with the last checkbox (Install...)

    $ openssl md5 Win10_1511_1_English_x64.iso

    MD5(Win10_1511_1_English_x64.iso)= a4fde74732557d75ffc5354d0271832e

    $ ls -lgh Win10_1511_1_English_x64.iso

    -rw-r--r--@ 1 staff   4.1G Feb 21 13:51 Win10_1511_1_English_x64.iso

    Win10 Sound works flawlessly. All BC drivers (Product version v 6.0.6136 from Bootcamp.xml) installed correctly without any manual intervention. Here are some screen shots. The installation is BIOS Mode (Legacy), not UEFI. Please notice that the Audio driver for Cirrus devices is hdaudio.sys.

    Ok so I reset SMC and NVRAM and tried to boot in legacy mode from my BC usb key but this didn't work. I still can't manage how to install Windows in Legacy mode on my 2nd Hard drive instead of EFI mode.

    Loner T, looking at all your set up there is only one difference I see, you are using the a USB 2.0 flash drive.

    I am using a 3.0 USB flash drive (Kingston Data Traveler), can this be the cause for me not being able to boot in BIOS Mode (Legacy) using BCA?

    Do you have more than one physical drive in your Mac laptop? From OSX Terminal, can you post the output of

    diskutil list
