Q: MacBook Pro 8.1, Apple spec says max ram 8GB, vendor says 16 ?

DesktopsSo if you install 16GB and it does not work, Apple will not help you.
You need to buy from a Vendor who guarantees:
"It works in your Mac,
or your money Back!"

May 11, 2016 11:24 AMby steve359,HelpfulMy 2011 15 in MBP runs fine with Crucial 16 GB. In the past the worse Apple did was advise I put the original RAM back for any service. Which is less relevant now as my 2011 falls into "obsolete" in a few months and will not be serviced by Apple after that.
Back in 2011 8 GB SODIMMs were $1000+ if they even existed. Apple just never updated online spec sheets because they did not re-test old machine over the years for new memory-parts.
