    No sound from what?

    External Speaker?

    Internal speaker?

    No sound from both?

    What shows in System Preferences>Sounds>Output?

Same here, no output what so ever. When you press to turn the volume up you get the little not allowed, circle with a line through it symbol. In the sound settings it says there is no output. When you plug headphones in also nothing.

Has 10.11.4 fried my soundcard? Noticed the imac is struggling visually too, flickering GUI.Only on a 2007 mac with 4GB so trying to downgrade back to 10.11.

Dear Nectarinesoup: If you hold down the option (Alt)  key and click on the speaker icon, you should get a list of all available sound inputs and outputs on your iMac.  also check out Audio MIDI setup to see if something got changed on you for sound.  I don't think 10.11.4 has fried your sound, at least I hope not, and haven 't heard of it happening. b-t-w (by the way) , 4 gig of ram is just about the bare minimum for running El capitan. IF you have a 2007 Mac Pro,

you can find out what model you have by going to "About this Mac" then "System Report" you may be able to run El Capitan OK. I know that the oldest Mac pro's can't really do that, but the later ones can

    good luck

Troubleshooting issues with no audio from built-in speakers on Macs - Apple Support

Is there a red light in the audio port?  If yes, the computer may need service.  Use https://locate.apple.com/country to find a service location.  If there isn't a red light reset the NVRAM.

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

Also verify that the computer is booted into normal mode--sound is disabled under a safe boot.  Use System Information to check the boot mode.
