    Hi

    If you are referring to notifications (rather than the message itself), how these behave depends on the settings and status of your devices.

    When Wrist Detection is enabled, in order to bring notifications to your attention as soon as possible:

    • If your iPhone is unlocked, you will receive notifications on your iPhone instead of on your watch.
    • If your iPhone is locked or asleep and your watch is unlocked (regardless of whether the watch screen is asleep or awake) and on your wrist, you will receive notifications on your watch.
    • If your watch is locked or has Do Not Disturb enabled, notifications will go to your iPhone.

    It is the message itself that I can read on my watch but not on my iphone.

    Restart your device and check for updates

    1. Restart your device.
    2. Check for a carrier settings update.
    3. Check for an iOS software update.

    Check that your iPhone:

    • Is not in Airplane Mode (Settings > Airplane Mode);
    • Is connected to Wi-Fi (Settings > Wi-Fi) and/or;
    • Is connected to a cellular network with mobile / cellular data enabled (Settings > Cellular / Mobile Data).

    If the issue persists, next try the following steps, in the following order:

    • In the Contacts app on your iPhone, check that you have a single contact card of your own and that it contains your Apple ID email address and your iPhone number.
    • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > in the Contacts section, check that My Info is using your contact card.
    • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > General > Siri > My Info - check that your contact card is selected.
    • Via a web browser, sign in to Manage Your Apple ID: https://appleid.apple.com/
      • In the Account section, under Contactable At, check that your own iPhone number and email address is listed (and no-one else's).
    • Delete old iMessage conversations with the person whose messages are not presently appearing on your iPhone:
      • Delete the conversations on your Apple Watch and, if you already have any, also on your iPhone;
      • Watch: open the Messages app (from the Home screen, which is accessed via single press on the Digital Crown) > swipe left on a message thread > tap on Trash / Delete;
      • iPhone: Messages app > swipe left on a message thread > delete.
    • Set new Messages conversations to start from your iPhone's phone number:
      • iPhone: Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > scroll to Start New Conversations From > choose your iPhone phone number.
    • Check the email addresses at which you can be reached via iMessage:
      • iPhone: Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > under You Can Be Reached by iMessage At > in addition to your iPhone number, also enable (with a check mark) your Apple ID email address (do not enable any others that are not solely yours).
    • On your iPhone in the Watch app: My Watch > General > Reset > tap on Reset Sync Data:
      • You will not see anything happen after tapping it (the process runs in the background, invisibly to the user).
      • Wait for a minute or so (to allow contacts data to be erased and replaced on your watch).
    • Disable and re-enable iMessage on your iPhone:
      • iPhone > Settings > iMessage > toggle off / on again.
    • Restart both your iPhone and your watch (turn both off together, then restart your iPhone first):
      • To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off. To restart: press and hold the side button until you see the logo.
