Q: When I try to update my desktop image I cannot seem to access photos

When I try to update my desktop image I cannot seem to access photos from Photos the apple program and when I try to add the photo's library with the plus sign for adding and go to it it is in light grey and not accessible.  I have tried dragging and dropping it in and although a folder appears nothing opens from within, thus limiting vastly my image selection for a desktop photo.

Any suggestions.

Yes software is up to date.  It was working fine and then I changed the name of my photos library and although photos opens fine it somehow does not register in system preferences, yet.

Is your Photos Library on your internal boot disk, and if so is it listed as your System Photo Library.

Only the Photos library in your Pictures folder is selectable for use as Desktop pictures.

clicking and holding the option/alt key on starting Photos will bring up the Choose Library

dialogue. Here you can find out the Photos library location and whether it is the System Photo Library.

    I solved it somehow...

I tried what you said but it was already selected as the default library and then when I opened Photos preferences I just had to click on "use as system folder library" and everything is back to normal now... Thank you all for your kind attention.

I tried what you said and it did not do anything and then I had the idea to go into photos preference and I found the solution there.

If I mark something as solved I want it to help others weather it is me or you.  What you suggested did not work so I did not want to mark it.

I did not mean to offend you, I was just happy that it was solved and realized that the only way to indicate the correct answer was to mark the one with the correct answer.

    I'm not offended.

you are not obliged to mark any posts as helpful or solved, marking your own posts is bad form.

But you were not able to help me and the solution was really simple.  Now when someone has the same issue they will have direct indication to the simple answer.  Bad form or not, it will help the next person.  As this is not my habit it is not bad form.  In this case, to persist in pointing out bad form to a relative new comer in your unwritten rule book may just be a persistent projection on your part.  If your life revolves around getting apple stars and levels it may irk you that someone would award themselves points for solving their own equation or dilemma.  Fortunately my life isn't about apple forums and geeking about on such.

I had an issue and it got solved.  It was overly easy to solve for someone that is in the know how.  No one pointed the obvious answer out.  It would be bad form to criticize me for solving my own problem and pointing out the obvious answer to any one else that may follow by marking it as solved.
