Since when? I've always been able to purchase Apple Care anytime within the first year.
Coverage for your Mac, Apple Display, and Apple TV
The AppleCare Protection Plan covers your Mac or Apple Display for three years, or your Apple TV for two years, from the original date you buy your device.
You can buy the AppleCare Protection Plan with your new Mac, Apple Display, or Apple TV, or within one year of your product purchase. Learn more about where to buy the AppleCare Protection Plan.

May 12, 2016 4:01 PM in response to Allan Eckertby michaeltee1975,Yes I can. You're thinking of IOS devices. It's only 60 days for iPods, iPhones, and iPad. I have up until the end of the first year which will be Monday to purchase 2 more years. I've already confirmed with Apple. I'm asking about iMac not IOS devices.
