Q: Will apple TV let me use my TV as an additional monitor?

Hi,

I'm trying to find a definitive yes or no answer here but I can't seem to find one anywhere.

I would like to know if I will be able to use my TV screen as a second monitor, independent of my computer?

I know that I can mirror my display onto my TV, but I would like to have a video playing on my tv for example, whilst I do work on my actual mac screen.

If the video comes from the internet, even if you AirPlay it from the Mac, ATV will display it on the TV. You need to keep the program open, but you can open other windows. I believe you can also extend your desktop onto the ATV, then it's just like having two monitors, and you can position windows at will on the extended desktop.
