Q: Brand newMagsafe 1 adapter  for 2007 MacBook Pro not working.

I have a 2007 Macbook Pro which had a broken Mafgasafe adapter.

I have now bought a new Magsafe 1 L shape 85 w adapter but still cant get the computer to go on.

I did visit a computer repair place in Toulouse and the guy managed to get the computer to power up with their own 65w Magsafe, but even then the light (on the adapter) didnt go on.

He did have to do a bit of jigging about with the cable.

Could it be a problem with the port?

Any advice welcome as I need to get the computer on at any cost.

Hope someone out there can advise.

Angela

From whom did you get the adaptor? There were reports of counterfeit versions that did not work.

Also the first MagSafe units have a T-shaped adaptor and, in spite of Apple's claims to the contrary, early MBPs like the 2007 would ofter fail to accept early L-shaped versions.

Allan Jones' query regarding the source of the charger is a very valid one.  There are counterfeits out in the market place.

Can you test the charger on another MBP?

I have a 2006 MBP which will have an identical charger connection as a 2007 MBP.  All three of my chargers with the 'L' shaped connection work so I really do not think that is likely to be the problem.   Some times you do have to wiggle the charger connection to make it work, but that happens on the unibody MBPs as well.

Check the connections for contamination and discoloration.  Check the spring loaded pins in the charger connection to see if they move freely.

    Ciao.
