Make sure your email account is set to IMAP.
POP accounts do not sync across devices. It's a POP, not an Apple, limitation.

May 13, 2016 12:02 PM in response to Ryszby Andre767,Rysz, when you enable "Mail" under your iCloud settings on your device it's not IMAP and it's not POP3... it's an Apple proprietary email account with [limited] push capabilities.
this is an Apple limitation from iOS 6...and reading a message on Google gmail does trigger a push notification
