The first is to level up, which is participating, answering questions, getting points which allow you to level up

Both of those methods are gamification, just two different types.

How does it work to level up? Is it the more posts?

No. It is how your replies help the Original Poster. If the Original Poster marks your reply as Helpful you gain 5 points (a gold star). If the Original Poster marks your reply as Solved (a green tick) you gain 10 points. If a Community Specialist marks your reply as Apple Recommended, you gain 7 points.

My advice is to read, read, read the replies in a forum. One day you will find: "Hey! I can answer that question!"

Take your time in composing a reply. Don't try to race against other replies. Your well considered and tested solution may be the one that solves the problem.

Hint: don't try to beat the automatic time-out. Stay calm. Compose your reply in the apps with which you are comfortable. Save then Copy and Paste into a reply here in Apple Support Communities.
