Q: What is the publishing process?

After I finish my book and want to publish it through iTunes and the Book Store, how long does it take to create a hard bound book. Also, I making copies for my siblings. Do I get to review the book first before I order other copies? Will it be a stand size book? How does the book store get a copy to me? Just trying to get a feel for the process and length of time it will take to publish and ship my book. I have a function in July 2016 where I would like to present the book to my family. Thanks. jn

You posted in the iPhoto forum and give us no information about what software you are using - it is not possible to order Photos books using iPhoto as that service was discontinued effective 4/1/2016

If instead you are using Photos then as to your other questions how long depends on many things including what undisclosed software you are suing, what undisclosed location you are in and what undisclosed shipping method you choose - some information is available here once you provide a location - http://www.apple.com/shop/help/print_products/routing

You review the book on your computer using this method - Preview a print project in Photos or iPhoto to avoid issues - Apple Support

You choose the size when you create the book - Details about books, cards, and calendars ordered in Photos for OS X and iPhoto - Apple Support

The book is shipped to you via an appropriate carrier depending on your undisclosed location

    Thanks for responding, Larry.

The product that I'm using for the book is iBook Author. I am not using iPhoto or Photos, other than as a reservoir for my digitized photos that I am pasting into the books pages. The application is not ideal, but I'm making it work and the price was right.

It appears that iBook Author has the facility to transfer the book to Apple for processing, I'm wondering how long it takes them to create the book and print several copies. I have used iPhoto to make smaller "memories-type" books (soft cover, photos and some text explaining the photo). This is a much bigger project and I expect a hard cover, professional-looking book.

So Larry, have you had any experience with iBook Author? I really appreciate your response. I have tried to get help from the iBook Author, but most of the documentation is unwritten, at least my browser is telling me so. Thanks again. jn

No - the place to find iBook authors users is in the iBook authors forum not in the iPhoto forum

You can print the iBook in iBook Author - see this link:  iBooks Author: Print a book

Or save it to PDF from the Print menu and send it to a different print service.

But iBook Author is meant to create iBooks to be viewed on an iPad. It would be great to be able to have them printed by Apple, but what about the included slideshows, sounds, and videos?

    Thanks for your response, Leonie.

So you are telling me that I cannot get a hard cover, hard copy of a book that I'm creating using iBook Author. I'm writing a family history and wanted to distribute a hard copy to each of my siblings this summer. It sounds like I'm going to have to take a pdf to an independent publisher. Right?

Thanks. Looking forward to hearing from you again. jn

I've never seen any indication that it is possible to get iBook Author books printed by Apple. Only guides how to publish them at the iBook store as an electronic book or a PDF version.

Have a look at Presto Photo. See this discussion:   Re: Re: how to export a book made in Aperture to make a similar book in Photos?
