Q: stop old text stream for a new text

I have an iphone4, and am trying to stop the text stream from previous messages when I'm writing a new text to a contact.

Any help on this? Thanks.

Then you may want to consider deleting the prior conversation

Other option - one that I personally use - is to set "Keep messages for" 30 days

I know this does not work for everyone -

    Please clarify - are you getting old messages over and over again?

    Yes. When I click on New Message and choose a contact, the most recent conversation opens. I'd like to start a completely new text, not a continuation.
