Jun 2, 2015 11:06 AM in response to Manoloivby markwmsn,First thing to mention is that Photos is not just a new version of iPhoto, it is an entirely new program built from scratch with a different underlying model and implementation. We are using the very first official version 1.0 of that program, so "as they previously did" doesn't really apply.
Back in iPhoto, pictures imported through Photo Stream showed up in automatically created Events each named for the month.
When your iPhoto library was migrated into Photos (which does not have an Events concept), the existing Events (automatic or manual) were converted to Albums inside a folder named iPhoto Events; they are not really Events, just Albums.
Photos (which, as I said, doesn't really know about Events) just imports Photo Stream pictures into the main library (as you noted). It does not create special Albums for them.
If you believe it is important for the new Photos application to have some additional features (including some way to identify pictures that came in through Photo Stream in a given month), tell Apple through official feedback channels (http://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html in this case).

May 13, 2016 7:01 PM in response to markwmsnby Demthinkblue,I was having this problem with missing months in photo stream until I discovered that the events folders were sorted manually, I went to View>sort event>sort by date, and it fixed the problem.

You're 4 versions behind with Photos and the system. I recommend you upgrade to the latest version of El Capitan and Photos which brings with it a number of new features, improvements and bug fixes. It's a most worthwhile upgrade.
At the time of Manoloiv's post (Jun 2, 2015 6:26 PM) the OS X version and Photos were current. This is a very old thread that has been resurrected .
I wish the hosts would lock old discussions - at least after four system updates!

May 14, 2016 9:12 AM in response to léonieby Old Toad,You're right. I looked at the date on the last post but not on the post I responded to. That's what I get with only one cup of coffer in me in the morning.

Re: photostream not working on my mac

I do not know if anyone ever runs into this issue anymore, but the Apple Engineers helped me fix this recently.
They had me do the following:
Turn off Photo Stream in your user account:
Quit iPhoto
Goto System Preferences > iCloud > Uncheck Photo Stream.
Close System Preferences
Then deleting the entire ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/ directory.
Open Terminal and type in cd Library
then type open . (open space period)
navigate to Application Support and delete the iLifeAssetManagement folder.
quit terminal
Then turn photo stream back on in their photo library.
open iPhoto and click on Photo stream in the left column.
enable photo stream.
It will take some time to download the cached photos but this resolved my problem of having 0 display and no photos in the "My Photo Stream" area when any of my other devices showed new photo stream photos without any problems.

Re: Shared albums won't show up on new Photos on Mac
Guys,
If you are still facing this issue after rebuilding, try this:
1. Close Photos
2. Go to System Preferences, iCloud, Photos and disable “My photo Stream” and “iCloud Photo Sharing”
3. Go to folder /Users/YourUser/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd/Data/Library/Applicati on Support/com.apple.cloudphotosd/services
4. Delete com.apple.photo.icloud.myphotostream and com.apple.photo.icloud.sharedstreams folders
5. Enable “My photo Stream” and “iCloud Photo Sharing” again.
6. Start Photos. After a while, the shared photos will start coming.

Re: Photostream not updating on Mac Photos
Helpful
I had this same issue. I fixed this by:
Closing Photos.
Opening Activity Monitor.
Killing the process titled "Photos Agent"
I opened up Photos again, and my Photo Stream immediately updated.

Re: Photostream not updating on Mac Photos
I fixed this by doing this:
$ pkill -9 photo
$ pkill -9 com.apple.CloudPhotosConfiguration
which was a big hammer but seems to work.
Just be aware that iPhoto is on its death bed. It is no longer supported by Apple or the Apple Print Product stores. Some of the slideshow themes have problems in El Capitan. It won't be long before it will go the way of the DoDo bird. So I suggest you start working with a test library in Photos to get to learn it's capabilities (some are a bit hard to fine) before you're forced to migrate to Photos.
