May 10, 2016 10:10 AM in response to esbensallingby Alex556,★HelpfulThe EFI of that model does not support NVME, you'll have to order a different SSD to solve this.

DesktopsThe NVME version is no faster than the ACHI version.
The NVME versions will probably Never be bootable, but there is said to be a Driver that can talk to it as a data-only drive.

May 10, 2016 12:43 PM in response to lllaassby esbensalling,I found that page. But will it make my drive bootable?

May 10, 2016 12:51 PM in response to esbensallingby lllaass,No, Currently NVMe is not bootable since the necessary drivers are not included in a Mac's EFI/firmware

Desktops1400-ish Mega Bytes a second should be compared to the Maximum speed of SATA-3, which is 6Giga bits/sec or about 375 Mega Bytes/sec.
Good work.
¿Does if feel faster? In any particular ways?
-
May 14, 2016 10:56 PM in response to Grant Bennet-Alderby esbensalling,It feels faster. But more of an evolution than a revolution. The move from a regular HDD to SSD felt like a greater leap.
However everything does seem snappier. Unfortunately my MP uses roughly 25 sec on the Power-On Self Test. After the chime is fast.
I Actually thought SATA was limited to 3 gigabits per second. Isn't these machines limited by SATA II?

DesktopsYes, I incorrectly typed "SATA-3 6G bit/sec" but the drive bays are SATA-II, 3Gbits/sec. The 375 Megabytes/sec is correct.
Compared to a SATA-III PCIe card which really is 6G Bits/sec, that would be 750 M Bytes/sec.

Jun 7, 2016 5:13 AM in response to esbensallingby verojum,Hi, do you mean you were able to boot using SM951 ACHI SSD or you just used it as storage data? Can you please let me know as I want to used it with this card
http://www.angelbird.com/en/prod/wings-px1-1117/ into a Mac Pro 2009.
Thanks.

Jun 7, 2016 5:20 AM in response to verojumby esbensalling, the sm951 is the only drive in my MP. So to answer your question. YES. 100% bootable.
I Can't say anything about the card you mention. I'm using a lycom DT-120. Works perfectly.

Jun 7, 2016 5:48 AM in response to esbensallingby verojum,Nice, thank you. No drivers needed, right?
I got the AngelBird card, because it seems to be the only one that prevents the thermal throttling and helps to maximize the transfer rate.
