Q: iMessage

I get the 'not delivered' sign repeatedly.  Will the recipient receive the message when they next log into their phone or computer?  The person I am trying to message uses Apple. IF NOT - how do I get messages to send please?  I have checked all the available settings on the menu and the ticks seem to be in the right places.

The person should get the message when logging in next time, unless he/she has not blocked you.

I guess you made sure your MacBook Air is connected to the internet.

So grateful thanks.  Now another query linked to the previous.  For ONE of my people (the same one as in the original query) I can't get the message to leave my machine.  I get the drop down message 'your message could not be sent'.  Try again has no effect.  Then the message shows as 'not delivered'.  Things seem to work as they should with my (very few) other messagers.  It all seems too difficult to bother with - the story of my Apple experience!

    Hi,

What do you mean by "repeatedly" ?

I get the sense from your two post that it is not everybody.

You will get the error message if someone's iPhone has been out of contact with the server too long.

If their iPhone has been off line from WiFi and Carrier fro days it will be come deregistered and they will not get anything until they sort out their Messages app again.  This might take a reset of the app on the iPhone.

Separate from that I have twice experienced the iPhone Number on the iPhone in Settings > Messages > Send and Receive becoming Unticked so that the number is not active.

This is a greyed out item that cannot be changed by the user (and shouldn't get disconnected itself either).

However as I have said it happens.

This also requires the app on the iPhone is reset.

Any other devices that are linked to the iPhone Number can lose the sync with the iPhone Number so that other devices also don't get a "copy".

Often it is a case of checking the actual settings and not what the person believes is set - particularly as this might be an items that should not change.

IF you normally choose to send to their iPhone number and you know their Apple ID try sending to the Apple ID.

One clue might to check the iMessages sent to you - as they can tell you whether you are connected to the iPhone Number or the Apple ID.

The idea that they might be blocking you is also valid.
