Q: Error sharing in Photos

I understand you are trying to share some photos with your wife using iCloud Photo Sharing. This method of sharing files utilizes iPhoto or Aperture, or you can use the Public Website option.
If you enable Public Website in the settings for your shared album, your photos will be published to a website that anyone can view in an up-to-date web browser.
Since you both have El Capitan on your computers, another way to share photos (or any other files) with your wife is with the AirDrop feature.

Thank you for the response. I guess one thing that baffles me is if iCloud Photo Sharing utilizes iPhoto or Aperture, then why is it an option from the drop down with using Photos? That doesn't make much sense to me. The Airdrop feature doesn't seem to be working for us. We both open Airdrop and we can see icons for each others computer. I go to Photos and select the option to share via Airdrop. Photos goes through "exporting", but when finished, my wife still doesn't see anything. We're on our home network sitting 5 feet apart......any ideas of what I might be missing or need to check?

Try selecting just one photo to begin with, and refer to these troubleshooting steps from the Use AirDrop to send content from your Mac article:
Tips for sending items
If you don't see the recipient in the AirDrop window or sheet:
- Make sure that both devices have AirDrop turned on and are within 30 feet (9 meters) of each other.
- If you're sending to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
- Your Mac needs to be a 2012 or newer model with OS X Yosemite or later.
- The iOS device must be using iOS 7 or later and have Personal Hotspot turned off in Settings > Cellular.
- If you're sending to a Mac:
- If the receiving Mac is using OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion, it needs to have an AirDrop window open: choose Go > AirDrop from the menu bar in the Finder.
- If the receiving Mac is a 2012 or older model, click “Don't see who you're looking for?” in the AirDrop window or sharing sheet of the sending Mac. Then click “Search for an Older Mac.”
- Find out if the Mac has “Block all incoming connections” turned on in Security & Privacy preferences. A Mac won't receive items using AirDrop if this setting is turned on.
- If AirDrop on the receiving device is set up to receive items from contacts only, make sure that both devices are signed in to iCloud. Also make sure that the email address or phone number associated with your Apple ID is in the Contacts app of the receiving device.

I've made some progress. I can send an item, a MS Word file for example, and it works. I just tried one picture and it works. If I select all of the pictures I have, I don't get the option to pick a recipient and there is obviously no transfer. I can pick a subset of pictures in my Photos and send them, but that means I have to go through and selectively choose them. I'm guessing there is some limit? I would like to be able to just share all of them through Airdrop.....

iCloud Photo Sharing is working with Photos for Mac as well. The error message needs updating.
Does your wife have iCloud Photo Sharing enabled in Photos for Mac and in her System Preferences > iCloud > Photos?
Is she reading the mail with the Mac Mail application?
Try this fix on her Mac: If sharing options and Markup are missing after you install OS X Yosemite - Apple Support
You could also use Family Sharing, then you will automatically have a shared family album.

It took a bit, but I think I've finally found some success. I learned a bit more about AirDrop and have it set up so my wife and I can share files and photos that way. I was able to finally get iCloud Photo Sharing working as well. Once I saw leonie's response that it works with Photos, I went through some troubleshooting. Found that when I went to try and share, one of my wife's older e-mail addresses was being picked up rather than her current one. Once I cleared that out, I was able to share with her. My son, who also part of my family, let me know that he was able to see the photos I set up for sharing.
