The version of Pages on Mavericks was ended at v5.2.2. When Yosemite was released, a new Pages v5.5 was required for that OS X release. Now, one must have OS X 10.10.4 or later to update to Pages v5.6.2 — the current, and only Pages release in the OS X App Store.

If you are talking about Pages '09, then anytime that you attempt to open an incompatible Pages v5 document in Pages '09, it will tell you that an 'index.xml' file is missing, or that you need a newer version of Pages — depending on how you tried to open that Pages v5 document. It is really telling you in an obscure way that you can't open a Pages v5 document in Pages '09. If this is the scenario, then just quit Pages '09, and then double-click the document icon to open it in Pages v5.

Is this when you are trying to open a .pages file from a newer version, or are you opening the application and it makes the suggestion to upgrade?  I have the latter and just keeping ignoring it.  Annoying, true.

    Hi Bob,

Good to see you again in the Pages for Mac forum. It could be an Economic Stimulus, but see this User Tip by Wayne Contello

Wayne has written a User Tip for working with the old and new versions of iWork (Numbers, Pages and Keynote).

Need newer version of Numbers to open file

That User Tip is not just for Numbers. It works also in Pages and Keynote.

    Stay well, Bob.

    Regards,

    Ian.

    Such a delightfully simple approach
