Q: Deleting OS X without formatting the drive

Hi.

I have recently installed an SSD on my 2012 MBP. I am using the original HDD as a secondary drive using a caddy. I have cloned the date to the SSD and have everything up and running. Now I want to delete the OS from my original HDD. Right now, I have two OS and two Recover disk options on the boot selector. I want to delete the Boot & recovery option that I have for secondary HDD. I don't want to erase the drive because I dont want to copy and recopy 500GB of data.

I am running OS X Mavericks.

I am sure many folks out here must have done this already.

Thanks.

Unless the OS you want to delete is on a separate partition, there is no way to delete just the OS. Leaving the OS there does give you another option in case something happens to the SSD.

    Hi Eric,

Thanks for the response. Yes, the OS I want to delete is on the original HDD, which now has a single partition, lets say Mac HD1. It also has a hidden recovery partition, lets say Recovery 1. The new OS is on the SSD, which is configured into 2 partitions, Mac HD2 and Bootcamp, along with hidden recovery partition Now, I want to delete the old OS on Mac HD1 along with Recovery 1 without losing any data on Mac HD1.
