Q: Apple tv cannot airplay peer to peer

I tried searching around but could not find answers to this.

I have an Apple TV model A1469 running on 7.2.1 (8011)

My iphone 6 plus running ios 9.3.1.

both have wifi and bluetooth enabled but when i tried to switch airplay from my mobile, i only see my iphone icon.

i even enabled AppleTV airplay conference message but it displays the following message.

1) Network Configuration

Connect To Wi-Fi Network

2) Choose This Apple TV

Apple TV

i thought the new software does not need to connect to same WiFi network?

Apple TV, tvOS 9

i performed a reset of the Apple TV because i saw the Activation failed.

Now i can see Apple TV. I tried streaming youtube but the loading icon seems to be just spinning and not displaying on Apple TV.

Screen mirroring works, music airplay works. youtube videos doesn't.

    Hello pentux,

Is there a reason you want to use AirPlay with devices not connected to the same WiFi network? Can you describe which WiFi networks ATV and the iPhone are connected to?

Your problem with AirPlay from YouTube is because "normal" AirPlay does not download the video stream to one device and transmit it to the ATV. Instead, it hands the stream identifier to ATV and ATV downloads it from the internet. This will not work if ATV does not have an internet connection. This is explained in this Get help with AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Peer-to-peer AirPlay lets devices on different WiFi networks communicate, but does not remove this requirement.
