Q: I keep getting a COMPUTER SUPPORT request

A folder pops up and says that I need to call a 1-800 number and that I have a virus. Anyone else getting this?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Keep in mind, nothing has been installed to your OS at this time unless you provided administrative information for it, it is possible a web browser can install an add on without your consent but again, this is for generating more ads and nonsense.

it's a scam, a constant and annoying scam. ignore it but don't expect it to go away all at once and never call these people, they don't have your PH#, don't give them a reason to have it come up on their ID. These types of warnings are ads, nothing more "you have a virus, you need to call us, we will charge you twice, we will give you a smoke and mirrors show on your computer and anything that does not look familiar to you we will tell you it's a virus, then we'll install software and take control of your computer with your permission and we will seriously mess that thing up."

don't fall for it, just close it up and move on.

you may need to force quit safari

    CMD+OPT+ESC

    select Safari

    force quit

open safari while holding down the SHIFT key

delete your browser history and cache.

you may also wish to check your computer for Adware or Malware, in which case the vast majority of the volunteers here recommend this free tool to remove (not protect against) malware and remove it if it is found.
