Q: how do I keep titles in a slideshow in Mac Photos?

how do I keep titles in a slideshow in Mac Photos?  I have put titles on my photos, and I could get those titles to show in a slideshow in the old iPhoto, but how do I do it on the new Mac Photos program?

As far as I can tell, this first (1.0) version of the Photos application does not support displaying any of the attributes of the pictures in a slideshow, not even the "title" text. It supports adding a text box on top of a slide in a fixed location, and will auto-populate a text box bearing the slideshow name on the first slide. After that, you have to add the text box (click "+" in a circle, select "Add text") and edit the default text (which is literally "Default Text").

If you want Apple to add a feature, either one that was in iPhoto or a new one) to the Photos application, tell them through the official Photos feedback page:http://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

They almost never respond, but they will have the opportunity to consider the comments in future development.

Photos cannot do it, keep using iPhoto for the more advanced features, until there is an updated version of iPhoto.  (Photos 1.5 vs iPhoto 9.6.1:  Features and Capabilities)

iPhoto 9.6.1 is still working very well on MacOS X 10.10.3.

You may need to update  iPhoto however, if you did not already update to iPhoto 9.6.1.

If you did not yet update to a Yosemite compatible version, see these user tips:

Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS... | Apple Support Communities

In the newest version of Photos (1.2) you can add text to each slide.  After creating a slideshow (File > Create Slideshow...), select one of the photos along the bottom, click on the "+" to the right of the list of photos along the bottom and select "Add Text."  Watch the video at http://macmost.com/creating-slideshows-in-photos.html

That is correct Jay, but we are looking for an option, where the titles or captions assigned to the metadata fields of the photos can be used as the titles in the slideshow, automatically, without having to copy them manually from the Info panel to the text fields in the slideshow.

As far as I can tell, this has not changed with El Capitan. We still have to copy and paste.

your suggestion to go back to iPhotos is good advice, however it enforces the fact that every update Apple manages to produce downgrades the options and flexibility of their apps. Maybe they are trying to invent a square wheel?

By the way do not use reverse gear to go forward!

No that is not what Léonie said - she said

Until is a critical condition in the statement which you choose to ignore - In the year since this post was made there have been 4 upgrades and many new features introduced

Rather than Troll year old threads shift into Drive and get your system up to date

Yes, thread is one year old + 4 upgrades + new features, however you cannot put titles in slideshow as you could in iPhoto.

Until you read the original question do not throw stones on frozen lake and expect ripples!

My shift is in “D” - it is because my system is up to date the problem has arisen!

    Maybe you need to read

So since you claim to have the exact same question then you need to update - otherwise you need to start a new thread and include your correct infomation - we can not see you so can only act of what you post

My error and apology, I did not realise that "apples" may be "pears" in a different OS X.

My OS is El Capitan 10.11.4. - "D"

Thank you for the offer of a new thread.

Your concern is still totally valid. I just tried a slideshow using Photos and I naturally expected the photo titles/description to appear automatically. I am running the latest versions, all up to date. As usual, Apple replaced a tool with a new one with less capabilities. That it temporary, UNTIL they bring it us to level ? Well Apple has a peculiar understanding of the meaning of UNTIL ...

No improvement so far.  We still have to copy and paste the metadata in all projects: slideshows, books, calendars.

Keep sending feedback to Apple with feature requests, or photos on Sierra will still not support working with metadata fully.    Feedback - Photos - Apple

So, where I have spent the last couple of years dutifully  putting meaningful titles on my family history pictures, now that I want to create a great slideshow to share at a family reunion, I am now going to have to create the data again.... on hundreds of images?  OMG : I just presumed this new Photos would have at least the basics from iPhoto..... groan....why do I have to manually re-do what I have done..... really unimpressed with these IOS apps.....

It is systematic - we used to be able to show the titles when we were using our albums as a screensaver.  I now have to write the captions directly into the photos using some mark-up tool and mutilate my photos, if I want to see the title when the photo is show in the screensaver. The same goes for books and calendars. We have to copy and paste any titles from the Info panel, if we want to see them in the project.

You may want to send feedback and report this usability problem. Having to enter the same text over and over again is error prone and a waste of time. Right now the designers seem to favor a clear design without text getting into the way, while many users need to see the information associated with the photos.
