Just follow that: try again later, maybe after a restart. If it does not work the post again.

Do you have a firewall on?

Does iCloud work on other devices?

    Can you login to iCloud.com?

When you reinstalled was that for only iCloud or all Apple Programs on your pc ?

Also keep trying to login just in case.

I have the same issue, on both my work and personal computers.  It logged in for a while on my work PC but then stopped.

I have tried disabling firewall etc (at home, not at work!) and it makes no difference.  I can log in to icloud via a browser fine, so it must be an app/account issue.

I'm having the same issue.. Windows 7 PC.  Worked Awesome for over a year and then sometime recently I noticed that I stopped getting my notifications that calendar updates were coming in.  I can log into the account via the web fine.  I hope this gets fixed soon because I rely on that calendar update system to keep my schedule synced.

    Tried:

    Disabling firewall

    Reinstalling/Repair of iCloud for PC

    Changed Apple ID PW

Tried a known wrong PW to see if the message is different and it is..

Let's hope someone figures this out soon.

Ok.  For grins and giggles I tried putting in my wife's iCloud username and password into the iCloud for Windows log in screen and it prompted me for the verification code that was sent to her device.  I did not go any farther than that because I did not want to mess up her calendar but I did not get the authorization error.  She does have the two step verification process turned on for her account so I wonder if that is something that is required now to properly authorize the iCloud account.  Because I changed my PW I have to wait 3 days to make that change..  Is anyone that is having this issue with two step verification enabled?

I don't have two step authentication enabled - I don't think my old iPod Touch could handle it.

Ok.  Today I enabled Two Step Verification on my Apple ID.  Once that was setup I tried to log into the iCloud application on my Windows 7 PC and the only change was that on the first attempt it asked me for the 4 digit authentication code.  I entered that number in and said Continue and it spun for a second and then gave the same error as before and to try again.  I even tried creating an "app specific password" and using it to log into the iCloud account but that gave me the message that the password was incorrect.  Entering in my normal password just gave the authentication error again.

I truly think that this is a backend issue with Apple's systems and WE are not going to be able to solve this without Apple's support.

I am also having this problem, using Outlook 2016 and iCloud - 5.2.2.87

iTunes is also installed on the computer and able to sign in without a problem, I can sign in to the www.icloud.com website from that computer with Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer (Not Edge). However iCloud does not work reporting the dreaded 'An error occurred during authentication. Please try again later.'

So far i have tried (in order)

    1. Close Outlook
    2. Un-install iCloud
    3. Empty "%APPDATA%\Apple Computer\"
    4. Repair Outlook
    5. Reboot
    6. Launch Outlook (check working)
    7. Close Outlook
    8. Install iCloud
    9. Launch iCloud (not Outlook)
    10. attempt to sign in

also the system Event Log has nothing at the time of the attempt

After three weeks of tearing my hair out I finally FIXED THE **** THING!!!  YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

The secret was uninstalling the current version and going back to an earlier version of icloud for Windows. (I used 3.1).  You can find the archived version of earlier versions on the net.  Just google it.  It now works fine.

Bundolo, may I ask what edition and version of outlook, and what edition and version of windows are you using?

Also I had trouble finding iCloud download for 3.1 that was on Apple's site, could only find it available from other websites whom enjoy spamming with adverts to deceive you as to what you are downloading.
