Q: ApplePay working intermittently on Watch

I have noticed that about 50% of the time ApplePay does not work on my Watch, but works fine on my iPhone 6 (at the same terminal).

Any thoughts as to why my Watch won't register the contactless terminal, but my iPhone will work fine?

Apple Watch, watchOS 2.2

    Hi

Whilst I appreciate that you have made some payments successfully using your watch, it is possible that your watch is not being presented to the terminal correctly.

To use Apple Pay on your watch, quickly double-press the side button. Your default card will be displayed. If you have added other cards and wish to use one of those instead, swipe to switch between cards. With your preferred card displayed, hold your watch up to the terminal:

    - The watch face should be facing and parallel with the terminal's own screen (you should not be able to see the watch face whilst paying), aligned centrally with the contactless logo on the terminal screen and held closer than 1 inch.

    - It should be held in that position for up to a few seconds, until you hear the confirmation beep and haptic pulse.

Hi Jonathan, thank you for your reply.

I always double tap the side button and wait for my default card to be displayed, then I place the face of the watch parallel with the screen / reading device on the terminal. I've gone so far, in the cases where it is not working, to actually rest the face of the watch against the contactless reader ... no luck.
