Q: Mac won't recognize videos for import from iPhone

When I connect my iPhone to my MacBook and open Photos and hit the import tab nothing shows up.  I have videos I would like to import and I can't do it.  The same thing happens with image capture even though it knows my phone is connected.

My photos are correctly importing via iCloud but I can't get my videos onto my computer.  I'm using an iPhone 6 and the newest MacBook.

We need details - are you using MyPhotoStream or iCloud Photo Library?

there are many iCloud services and sharing the specific one you are using is critical to helping you

I'm using the Apple Photos app on my Mac.

I'm not sure how to answer your question.  The photostream option on my iPhone 6 within the photos app stopped showing up many months ago, but they are still importing to my computer wirelessly.

This issue arises when I'm connected via cord to my Mac.  I'd always been able to import videos although I haven't tried in 3 months.

My iPhone has enabled my Mac as a trusted computer.

Let me know if you need more specific into.

You look at the iCLoud options that you have chosen - by default they are all off and nothing transfers - you choose which to set and use - we can not help without knowing which one you are using

Where do I find this info?

Within iPhone iCloud photos settings it's set to upload to my photo stream.

On the Mac two places - System preferences ==> iCLoud ==> Photos  and in Photos preferences ==> icloud -

on the iPHone settings ==> icloud ==> photos

You are using iCloud Photo Library on your Phone but not on your Mac - with ICPL you do not import via USB and MyPhoto Stream does not transfer videos - so you either need to use ICPL on all devices or none of them - right now your Photo and iCLoud.com will be identical but your Mac will only have photos on it from MPS

Using MPS and using USB import for videos is fine - using USB import for everything is fine and using ICPL for everything is fine mixing ICPL and MPS is not

I turned off iCloud Photo Library on my Mac because I thought it would add all the photos on my Mac to the cloud and require huge storage requirements.  Is that a correct assumption?

It looks like if I turn off ICPL on my iPhone it will remove all the photos and videos from my phone, and the videos have not been saved anywhere else.

I turned off MPS on my iPhone and Mac but I still don't have the ability to upload my videos via USB.

I'm still confused on how to upload my videos.  Is using iCloud Photo Library the only option?  Up until a few months ago I'd never had a problem manually uploading videos.
