Q: How to stop iphone history showing up on multiple phones?

Only after getting iOS9 (currently both phones iOS 9.3.1) did I learn about the "great" feature of iOS8 that pushes my phone history (& sometimes text messages) between my iPhone5 and my wife's iPhone6s; and prevents me from using FaceTime and iMessage while signed in to iCloud.  We share the same Apple ID and iCloud account.  Let me preface this, and make it very clear, I do NOT want to get a separate Apple ID or a separate iCloud account b/c, in the past at least, we were able to share photos, calendars, etc. automatically between phones, we are paying for one iCloud account and don't need two - one day I will also figure out how to once again get my iPhoto stream on my Mac to actually share photos w/ our iPhones.    And, NO, I do not want to go to through the separate steps of "pushing" or "sharing" photos by choosing the pics, sending invite, accepting, repeat each time I have new photos that I want to share between my phone and my wife's.  It's bad enough that iPhoto on my Mac no longer uploads photos to photostream (or at least to our iPhones), but that is another can of worms I will deal w/ in a different post.

Apple Tech support told me that I have two options: 1. get my own Apple ID and somehow still sign in to the existing iCloud account, and I would use the new Apple ID when I sign in to FaceTime and iMessage to allow me to use FaceTime and iMessage on my phone and not receive call history for my wife's phone. 2. on my phone sign out of iCloud, sign out of FaceTime, and sign out of iMessage so that I don't get my wife's iphone's history and vice-versa.  Way to go Apple!

And before the obnoxious ask, yes, on both phones we have turned off handoff; on both phones we list only the phone number for that particular phone for iMessage (send and receive) but underneath the lone selected phone number the same email address for the AppleID is also listed but w/ no "check mark" next to the email address and we can't erase or remove the email address from either phone w/o getting a warning "You will no longer be able to receive iMessage at "xyz.net" on any devices" - we have an iPad mini that my wife sometimes uses for FaceTime so we need to be able to use the email address on that device (the mini doesn't currently have FaceTime or iMessage selected or turned on, and only uses the AppleID email address to be reached at); Facetime - I have unselected it on my phone (so I can't use FaceTime); Family Members only lists the email address for the AppleID and no other emails or phone numbers etc are listed (I still don't know how Family Share works except it somehow deals w/ "purchases"); iCloud Drive is on (on both phones I believe)

I've had it w/ Apple software that is suppose to "just work" and is does not work.  Every update in iOS takes away, modifies, or installs some limitation or feature that screws up what I had in place (and most updates change settings that I have to search for after things go screwy). The "Apple Way" is not often the "Customer" way these days.

Does anyone have a way for me to remain using the same Apple ID and iCloud account on separate phones w/o getting the call history of each phone shared between the phones?

iPhone 5, iOS 9.3.1, iPhone 6 (iOS 9.3.1); iPad Mini 2

STOP sharing an iCloud account. They are NOT intended to be shared. If you insist on doing so, then you're going to have to deal with the consequences.

The solution is simple, use different IDs and then enable Family Share. If you don't want to do this there are no other choices.

As elcpu has pointed out, Apple saw an issue and resolved it when introducing the continuity features you are speaking of. An iCloud ID is not meant to be shared, because as you have found out, it carries information that is meant to be convenient and specific to a single user.

Family Sharing will be the way you want to go for this.

That is what I expected.  What Apple intends, and what customers have historically used/done, are two separate things.  As my post made clear, if you have a way to resolve this "without getting a separate Apple ID" I would welcome the suggestion(s).

If you want it to behave in a way other than what Apple intended and refuse to even consider following the directions, I suggest you either go find something that works the way you want it to and buy that, or design your own smart-phone.

I do recognize your name in previous Apple discussions, and I would expect nothing less, or more, from you.  As far as altering reality goes, how about this: before iOS 8 this was not a problem, there was no explicit warning that the problem would occur, and there were no additional steps needed to share photos between phones.  It was simple and a no brainer.  Why is it when someone dares to question Apples' perfect systems or infinite wisdom the response from the Kool-Aid crowd is for the person to get lost?   Criticism is just another view point; we are all entitled to different view points.

I won't go in to the personal reasons for requiring the same Apple ID and iCloud account, but it is suffice to say the reasons are real.  If you don't have a way for me to keep using the same AppleID and iCloud account w/o getting the call log/history, you need not reply.

I agree this is annoying. I have this same issue except 1 is my personal iPhone and one is my work iPhone. I've never had a problem until several weeks ago and I've had 2 iPhones with the same appleID for at least 5 years. It's frustrating because I try to keep my personal phone calls and business phones calls separate and it just looks like I'm using both phones for both when I look at the history. I wish this issue would be fixed.

I don't think it's going to be fixed as Apple doesn't seem to consider it broken.

Meanwhile, some people have found that turning off iCloud Drive solves the problem for them. Why it works for some and not others, I couldn't tell you.
