Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

My problem isn't so much with the phone having a problem as it is the terrible customer support I received.    Was sent a damaged phone and called a liar.   Been without a phone since January and its been almost a year since my phone was purchased.  Apple warranty means nothing if they don't even honor the year.

Don't waste your time with Lawrence. You will never convince him.

Agreed, no point wasting time with Lawrence who is an Android troll without a common sense.

I Think it's to do with constant bending and even use of extremely tight cases. Which facilitate bending.

Same problem for me. iPhone 6 plus, 128GB, that started with the flickering and unresponsive screen.

I went to the genius bar and the Agent said:

    -  "Yes, many customers have had this use already".

    - "Yes, Apple knows about the issue because, as I said, you're not the only one"

They ran some tests that acknowledge the phone has an issue with the multitouch system. According to past experiences with some other customers, they don't recommend replacing the screen as almost all of the customers have returned with the flickering/unresponsive screen issue 2 o 3 days after the screen replacement.

In the end, as my phone is out of warranty, the option they offer is to buy a replacement (same iPhone 6 plus) for not less than $325 USD. The worst part of this whole issue is that they ended up by saying:

"We don't recommend buying the replacement of you're current phone considering that iPhone 6 plus hardware may be affected again..." They recommended to by an iPhone 6s plus which don't have the issue so far (more than $800USD retail price).

Why apple won't start the recall program if they do know there's an issue with multiple iPhone 6 plus devices!? So disappointing they don't care about their customers.

Everyone on this thread that has not already done so should submit a "Bug Report" from the "Feedback Type" menu here:

As obscure as it is, that is Apple's chosen avenue for receiving these kinds of problems' notifications.

I might make it more obvious, but I do not run the zoo.

Having the same problem, with an iPhone 6+ 64GB, 16 months old.

A Brand-new screen did not help - the expert technicians at my local independent shop were dazzled, did not know what to do.

Apple needs to contain this now, as time is a factor which will exponentially increase the device failure, which is 100% more critical than other stuff - some people are losing data, as apps cannot be configured.

    Just to remind everyone...

You need to pin down the event that immediately preceded the onset of the misbehavior - and be really SURE about it

It appears anecdotally that many here have cited the installation of the iOS 9.3.1 upgrade.

If that is so, say so in your postings and Feedback "Bug Report" to Apple > http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

It is VERY important to have DETAILS committed to a tangible medium - My crystal ball is busted and so is Apple's. Any "vague" reports will likely be disregarded (and thus not counted as evidence!)

Cite other devices in the same household that do or do not exhibit the problem (if iOS 9.3.1 is on these)

Just a warning as it sounds like there may be some need of hardware replacement here:

If you go through anyone else but Apple, the replacement you get will likely be cheap, but ...cheap and not an OEM product. This can run several risks which I will be happy to share...

1 Safety - as a non-oem product, it has not had to go through the proper channels to ensure it meets standards that may otherwise produce unwanted results. To be blunt, fire.

2 Loss of Touch ID - if you have your iPhone 6 screen serviced by a non-apple authorized service provider (https://www.apple.com/lae/support/programs/aasp/), the next time your phone does an internal systems check, you will lose the functionality of your Touch ID as it cannot be authenticated as a genuine part and will be disabled for security measures. Understanding what all Touch ID can be responsible for in regards to your financial information, you should understand this.

3 No guarantee - there is no guarantee of the quality of the part you will be replaced with and it's longevity. They will not be able to calibrate it to your phone either. These are not simply made to be plug and play. The process is actually fairly meticulous. When Apple replaces one of these, they then put it into a machine for roughly 10 minutes to calibrate the multitouch and optimize it to ensure full functionality.

4 Loss of Hardware Support - This one is a big one! If you have your phone serviced through any Non-AASP, that phone can no longer be considered for any future repairs or replacements through Apple. It is DOA. Apple can no longer speak for the build, precautions taken in replacing of the part, or the part itself and so the whole unit is marked as Non-Supported. That means that if your phone were to suddenly die, you will not have the Apple option of service replacement, but instead will have to purchase a brand new phone outright.
