Q: Unable to sync Itunes and my phone

I am beyond confused with what to do. I have a early 2008 Macbook 3gb with the OS x 10.6.8.

My phone6s is unable to sync with the Itunes. Itunes says it is up to date and so does my computer.

What am i missing? Why can't i sync?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

An iOS 9 device requires iTunes 12.3.x or higher in order to sync. So, even though you are running the highest version of iTunes that you can with your Mac OS X, it is not as high as needed. You would need to upgrade your OS X to 10.8.5 or higher in order to download iTunes 12.3

    Best of luck,

10.8.5 is Mountain Lion, and this link provides the minimum requirements in order to run it:

OS X Mountain Lion system requirements - Apple Support

Mountain Lion can be purchased at the Apple online store:

    http://www.apple.com/shop/product/D6377/os-x-mountain-lion

The most current version of OS X is El Capitan. Here are the minimum requirements needed to run El Cap:

OS X El Capitan - Technical Specifications

I will see if one of our Mac experts can look in on this thread to provide more help if needed.

You will probably want to add RAM if you upgrade to 10.11. The consensus seems to be 4 GB minimum and more is better. The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.

Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.

I just linked the system requirements and then put a bat call out for the big guns. I defer to BDAqua and Eric Root....

I Will leave the advice to the BDAqua and Eric Root, but I did want to reinforce what Eric is suggesting about the RAM. I have a MacBook Pro late 2011 model running YosemIte with 4GB of RAM. It runs fine for my usage, but I don't do any heavy PhotoShop or graphics work on the machine.

I would not install ML or higher with less than 4GB of RAM.

The max OS is 10.7.5 you can have (Lion). That will not help you to the needed version of iTunes.

    Note:

you said 3GB: I suppose that is a non standard set: it is enough. But can be increased however to 6GB ( you have 2 slots). It is very probable that you can not find this Ram with the correct specs, when you contemplate buying, make sure that it has the correct specs.... You can try two suppliers: Crucial and OWC. I would not do it.

As Lexiepex says, the maximum OS available for an early 2008 MacBook is Lion (Mac OS X 10.7.5). It is not possible to install the latest version of the OS nor any version subsequent to that.

Your computer is not capable of upgrading to an OS which will allow you to use the newer version of iTunes. Sorry.
