May 18, 2016 2:33 PM in response to Ryszby emiwi,Yeah, I tried that, but then there are no older copies and it just says the computer cannot find my Time Machine backup. I have Time Machine turned off, maybe that's why?

May 18, 2016 2:40 PM in response to emiwiby sberman,How did the photo get onto your machine in a format that was suitable for Preview?
For example, did you export it from the Photos app? If so, the unaltered original is still in Photos.
Or perhaps it came from an iOS device and the original is still housed either there or in iCloud Photo Library.

May 18, 2016 3:37 PM in response to sbermanby emiwi,I exported them to my harddrive from my SD card through Finder so unfortunately I don't have the extra copies on Photos. Perhaps this is a life lesson for me to start using Photos or turning on Time Machine

Having a redundant backup plan in place will one day save your bacon—Why wait for "jailhouse religion."
Time Machine is easy enough, as well as an independent Boot clone.

Just to double check, you never said that you deleted the photos from the SD card. If you did not delete them, they would still be on the card.
