Q: Handoff and AirDrop not working in El Capitan

After upgrading to OS X 10.11 El Capitan, my Handoff and AirDrop stopped working between iOS 9.0.2 on iPhone 5S and my MacBook Pro Late 13. I've tried logging out of iCloud account on both devices numerous times, it didn't help.

For my friend with MacBook Air and iPhone 5S with same iOS version it works flawlessly.

Did anyone encounter similar issue, and if so, how did you solve it?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 9.0.2, plus iPhone 5S with iOS 9.0.2

It is working for me. But I see odd BTLE range issues with AirDrop. Devices are not always showing up.

    Handoff is fine.

This all is a lot better than earlier versions of El Cap.

Well I can inform you that even with a clean install of 10.11.5 (downloaded and installed today) airdrop and location are not working.

This is absolutely ridiculous.  Apple get your act together.  I've just treated myself to a new iPad Pro and nearly have any issues between mobile devices it's all an issue since El Capitan.  Absolute crap on Apple for this hiccup.

What parts of continuity is your mac supported for?

System requirements for Continuity on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support

Use AirDrop to send content from your Mac - Apple Support

    requirements at bottom of page

if your Mac is not on these lists but meets the hardware requirements you need to hack it because Apple doesn't want your Mac to work.

    Fixed it!!

The problem of Airdrop not working started when i updated OS to El Capitan.

I was able to see my iPhone in the Airdrop tab on my macbook but i was unable to see my macbook when i wanted to share files from my iPhone.

Go to Settings (on your iPhone)  >> Control centre ... Then toggle off and on "Access within Apps"

Straight away Airdrop started working again...

Also, check your time zone settings on both phone and macbook.  I had the same issue, and after simply opening up the time/date interface on the macbook to validate time zone, airdrop started working.

    Okay,

this has been bugging me. I've got a macbook pro (mid 2012) on El Capitan, a Macbook Air (Mid 2014) on El Capitan and an iPod touch 9.3.1.

    Air drop problems:

Macbook Pro: Connects to iPod Touch

Does NOT connect to Macbook Air

Macbook Air: Does NOT connect to either devices.

So I'm guessing it's a problem with the Macbook Air at this stage. (I'm just going to add a note here saying that before I've never had to use "search for an older mac" before when connecting the two macs)

I've connected both macs with the bluetooth and they both come up on my devices and I can see they're connecting but for some reason the airdrop function still does not work. I've tried turning the bluetooth off then on, shutting down and restarting, making sure the date/time settings are identical, making sure I'm discoverable by everyone and signing out of iCloud and logging back in again. Nothing changed.

I'm going to add another note at this stage to say that when I first upgraded to El Capitan, everything worked normally, so I'm not sure why this has suddenly stopped working.

I know the two macs are talking to each other as I'm using safari on the macbook air and there's an icon on my tray on the pro that mirrors what I'm looking at. I don't care about handoff (unless this directly affects airdrop) as I never heard of it before airdrop stopped working.

So in other words... if somebody knows anything... um... help?

WPA doesn't solve my problem, but WPA2 solved my problem

    Thanks for your idea

I hope this may help you. Faster than before.

What I did with mine is.

    Steps

    1. Turn Off the Bluetooth of your Mac

    2. Go to, just press COMMAND + SPACE BAR then type /Library/Preferences/

    3. Just find com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and then delete this.

    4. Now, Turn On Your Mac Bluetooth

    5. Open your Wifi Router on your Browser

    6. Then Go to Wireless Settings

    7. Change Security Code from WPA to WPA2

    8. Quit your Browser

    9. Try to use Airdrop now

    Thank you!

Didn't work for me, but signing out of iCloud on both and then signing in again did -- and FYI, while handoff wasn't working, Airdrop was.
