Q: CommonExtras folder missing from Server.app

I have been trying to fix several issues with my server.  Many solution refer to using files in the CommonExtras folder.  However I do not have one.  How do /i make sure it is installed properly.

Thanks for sticking with me.  I don't think the wiki data has gone, I do not get the 'landing' page with the icons to go to the wiki, documents, xcode and whatever.  I just get get an  error saying that the 'proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server'.  This happens with profile manager as well.

I followed an apple document to reset server manager that ends in running 'sudo /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/libexec/deviceManagerCommon.sh

There is a lot of output to this command.  Part of it states that postgres can not connect to server. No such file or directory. Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/Library/Server/ProfileManager/Config/var/PostgreSQL/.s.PGSQL.5432"?

There are other FATAL messages concerned with being unable to connect to database and the server.

    Leo,

I have seen those and my troubles got worse as I tried them out.  I am a bit unsure about the last suggestion.  I ran..

    sudo launchctl load -w /Library/Preferences/com.apple.servermgrd.plist

and got the same message - 'Invalid or missing service identifier'

so I added the Label key with a string value of my server and ran the command again.  This time I got the message 'Invalid or missing Program/ProgramArguments'. I did it again with the reverse domain name of my server - same message.  What is meant to be in the <string> part?

When I try to use the 'Recovering custom Postgres data..... I fail at the first command.

    sudo serveradmin stop postgres

This gives the same error as trying to get the postgres fullstatus.

The latest situation.  I talked to Apple support and they noticed that the IPv4 address on my airport extreme was not my external IP address but a local network address.  I phoned my ISP to get it fixed but they broke it completely so I was without internet for three days.  An engineer came and fixed the problem.

Still I could not connect to profile manager or wiki.  However, this coincided with an operating system and server update.

Now I can connect to wiki and profile manager, all data still present BUT the original annoying problem is still there with messages every 4 seconds.

Well, this has been annoying me so much I have contacted support.  It took quite a few phone calls and eventually an engineer went to work on it and were able to reproduce my error.  They have found that sdhd and sdmd are causing multiple crashes due to bugs in those files.  They are going to incorporate fixes to those files in an upgrade to OS X Server - when I do not know.

    Dave,

I did manage to replicate this error:

I am still trying to find a fix other than curing the database vis a vis the methodologies listed above. Fortunately for me it is on a test rig and doesn't really matter. I don't get the other errors though, which suggests that you might have something else too. This here above, happens when the database was not updated but could be solved relatively easy.

Glad you got sorted, it seems.

    Leo
