Sep 9, 2014 2:05 PM in response to Blank0by Jenkins92,This did not help completely. http://www.freeview.co.uk/whats-on/tv-guide is back to normal, but pages like http://ttte.wikia.com/wiki/James?action=history and http://ttte.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Contributions/Jenkins92 are still not working and the latter is a very important one. I will need to be given a other solution that can solve this problem.

Nov 23, 2014 3:22 PM in response to BillyBaldwinby ScottLA10,Same problem. Simple fix if like me you just want Safari to operate essentially as it did before.
I've never commented before. Consider myself computer skills inferior to an 8 year-old, and was shocked to find my hunch actually worked.
The problem seems to lie in the operating system trying to integrate every aspect of its functionality and content with every type of search conducted in either Safari or Spotlight which is now a jumble at best (I'm back to searching in the finder) and seems to snack on email content.
So, in Safari, open preferences.
Select the Search Icon
From the pulldown I have selected google as my search engine.
I have selected Include Search Engine Suggestions which are often useful and occasionally comical.
Do not select any of the smart search settings.
It seems to send Safari on a wide ranging search of the African Savannah to load a simple webpage because it looks everywhere else first before it loads. If after all that hunting about it thinks it might have the page or a piece of it somewhere local then it gets a headache instead of just looking for it on the web in the first place.
I have no idea what smart search is or why I would want to search spotlight on my browser or the web from spotlight but apparently it's so smart it's "too smart for its own good." Huh, maybe artificial intelligence is already here. Yosemite has a sense of irony.

Apr 4, 2015 6:08 AM in response to BillyBaldwinby adamkrause2004,Disabling the extensions immediately cured my problem. Turns out there was only one extension - a You Tube Auto-resize extension. Weird! Thanks to all who post here! A very special thank you to Linc. Even though my problem was much simpler than any of the fixes you posted, you are one **** of a guy. To take that much time and try that hard to help someone out is truly a testament to your kind heart. I've seen you on here many times and in many different discussions and you always go WAY above and beyond to help. People charge HUNDREDS of dollars per hour to do what you offer for free. Big thank you brother! --> (stands and salutes)

Jun 2, 2015 10:54 AM in response to Linc Davisby freebird727,Hi Linc, I hope you can help me with my situation. I have done everything mentioned here previously and have just now done this advice. I first noticed Safari running slow when streaming with Flash, things like movies mostly. Then it has gotten progressively worse and all my internet is lagging; sometimes not loading at all. I was thinking I could just restore my mac mini to factory settings as I've only had it since March and it's brand new, but I can't even figure that out. Any help you have would be greatly appreciated!

Jun 9, 2015 9:29 AM in response to BillyBaldwinby adamkrause2004,Is it on a wireless network? I just had the same problem with my Mac and fixed it by changing the channel on my wireless router. Super fast now.

Nov 13, 2015 5:33 PM in response to freebird727by macdonl,Hi Freebird,
Just tuning in here to see if you have made any progress with this.
Link ,if you are still monitoring this thread, I'd be interested in your comments.
As you recommended in an earlier post I checked out the usual suspects. Reset Safari, turned off extensions and add-ons, logged in as a guest but with no change. I'm connected directly to the router by ethernet cable and I have a reasonably high speed service with fibre in the street. No Wifi is being used.
Then I came across this thread among others.
I ran the terminal commands as suggested by Link and came with a list like yours Freebird. (I've recorded these for future reference). However, strangely enough, after running the commands I opened Safari and found the the tab selection speed was as fast as it has been in the past! So I no longer have a problem.
I'm sure that I turned off extensions before I ran Link's commands. To test this, I turned on extensions again, re-started Safari and the tab selection speed was still fast. Turned them off again, quit and re-started Safari and all is still good - opening tabs is now nice and fast.
Suggestions welcome!
All the best
donlf

May 18, 2016 6:54 AM in response to macdonlby Cambarus,I've had a long-standing issue with Safari slowness and partial page loading on my MacBook Pro Retina running El Capitan, but I just found a fix that was so obvious that I never thought about it. Over time, my bookmarks folders have grown incredibly large as I bookmarked virtually every page I visited. I cleared out the majority of the unneeded bookmarks and the slowness ended. Perhaps someone can explain why the large number of bookmarks was slowing Safari down.
