Q: gps not working properly after iOS 9.3 update

Hi all.

After updating to iOS 9.3 my GPS cannot find my exact location. It keeps telling me I am in a big area, (Triangulating) seems like it does not activate the GPS.

Sometimes very little it works and give me the correct position, but 97% of the time its not working. Anyone else with the same problem?

Besides that: A hot phone & bad WIFI

I have been getting the message "No GPS, Showing approximate location" on iPhone 6 running on iOS 9.3.1. The problem is present when I use Apple, Google map or Waze. Called tech support and was disconnected after 15 min wait and describing the issue. I'm on hold now for a second attempt. I think that it needs a software fix.

My Ipad Air with cell service is NOT updated to the latest iOS, and the gps is working fine.

Apple - please come up with a fix.

Same here. I've tried a general reset, factory reset, uninstall, battery drain, etc., etc. nothing has worked. Should have held on to my Garmin I guess. Really disappointed in Apple. Seems like they are trying to do too much and it's all buggy.

Having the same problem here. Also impacts apps like RunKeeper. Spoke to an apple tech a couple weeks ago and was told that they may need to replace my phone. Since that time, I've been unable to make contact with the rep even though I have a ticket number and such. I travel a lot for work and my run training is done through RunKeeper...so not having the GPS function is a major problem. In addition, I'm having a lot of problems with wifi and staying connected or even picking up networks (which I know are up and functioning). I'm burning through data at a rapid pace as I'm constantly getting kicked off wifi. I've attempted the following:

    1.       Researched possible fixes online

    2.       Turned location services off, rebooted phone, turned location services back on

    3.       Restored network settings (multiple times)

    4.       Backed up the phone and restored it to factory settings

    5.       Restored the phone using the data backed up

Nothing has worked and I'm beginning to get frustrated with apple support. Currently on hold trying to make contact with another Tech. There isn't an Apple store in my state...closest is 3 hours away. I agree with someone else who posted, that it is shameful to spend so much on a phone that will not longer function at full capacity due to bugs in  an IOS update.

Read on some online forums that something similar happened with an iPhone 4 update which essentially fried the wifi components of the phone.

new update will fix this issue.  I just switched to updated beta version. iOS 9.3.2.  My GPS signal works great.  However, I am very disappointed with Apple that they did not mention this issue.  I am not mad about faulty software because it can always happen.  However, not being honest to customers makes me mad.

I upgraded to 9.3.2 (not Beta) it showed up as available upgrade, but I still get no GPS.

I have similar problems with the GPS since installing 9.3.1 in my iphone 6. I can't understand how this has been happening for such a long period for so many customers with no reply from Apple about how to solve it, and an explanation about the connection between the upgrade and GPS issues. Some write above that it is actually a hardware issue that arises when you do the upgrade. Apple should be more straightforward about this issue.  I guess the drop in stock price recently is justified.

    Can anyone verify the following...

    1. Is this a problem with just the iPhone 6? Any iPhone 6s people experiencing the problem? I had enough with this issue and ended up buying a used iPhone 6s off craigslist. I haven't upgraded the software now knowing the issues with 9.3.1. Just curious if this is only an iPhone 6 issue.

    2. I also tried 9.3.2 beta and all my issues were the same for the iPhone 6. What version beta worked for you?

Apple please fix this issue ASAP. Many of us use our maps EVERYDAY as well as travel for work. This effects everything from Waze, apple maps, Uber and may other apps. THIS IS A BIG DEAL! This should be highlighted as the first fix with 9.3.2.

I have iPhone 6.  I don't know about other models.  My wife has iPhone 6 too but her phone is fine.  My daughter has iPhone 5 but I told her not to download 9.3.1.  She still has the previous software so I don't know if iPhone 5 has the same issue.

Tried the Genius bar a week ago, but all they are saying is hardware failure.  I don't want to pay $199.00 to replace my phone.  Some say software can fry some hardware components.  If this is the case, they should replace the phone for free..

Yesterday I downloaded 9.3.2, and right after the beta version GPS started working but it didn't work this morning.    and if they don't fix this issue or replace the phone for free, i am leaving Apple for Samsung.

Guys, I just updated from iOS 9.3.1 (13E238) to 9.3.2 (13F69) and GPS still doesn't work.

I own an iPhone 6 and an iPhone 6+, only the iPhone 6 is having this GPS issue. The informaton about this phone is: iPhone 6, 64GB. Model MG3L2CL/A.

After reading all your post I believe is an issue with iPhone 6 only. Not iPhone6+, iPhone6s, iPhone6s+, etc, am I right? Can anyone confirm this?

Waze denies to work, Google Maps is not accurate about my position anymore. Uber is useless without GPS. Here's a screenshot from Waze, I received the same error before and after uodating to 9.3.2.

If it's only $8.00 i might take a chance and try a new antenna but there's no doubt a software compatibility issue here. Maybe the newer iPhone 6's had a newer antenna added halfway through production.

OK.  I successfully resolved this issue for myself by replacing the WiFi antenna inside my iPhone.  My WiFi reception seems to be restored to what it was before I started having problems.  I will test the GPS navigation the next time I leave the house.

The repair process is not for those inexperienced with opening electronics and has a lot of steps, but I will detail what I did here in case anyone else wants to try it. My guess is that you won't be able to get the Genius Bar folks to do this procedure (they'd rather just replace the phone), but you may be able to get 3rd party repair shops to do it.
