May 18, 2016 1:35 PM in response to luculcby Aliencowboy62,Ipad Brick after IOS update, cannot sync with iTunes, upgraded/updated to new IOS update iOS 9.3.2 17 May and now Ipad shows iTunes icon with lightning plug. MacBook will show error 56. When will the update fix be out? I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands or more customer dead in water with their iPad brick. Went to the Apple Store and they told me, "sorry" it is a hardware problem. We'll have to order a replacement and we'll call you and let you know when you can pick it up."
This is software issue not a hardware issue, millions of iPads would have to be replaced if this were a hardware problem. Bad decision to issue a knee-jerk reaction to a software crash that could be fixed with a software update. -

There are many reports of this happening on the internet. I called Apple this morning to get an opinion, and the person I talked to said they had never heard there was a problem. Apple very slow to respond. I have decided not to update.
If I worked for Apple and I'd like to keep my job, I'd say the same thing too. They'll probably show me the door and my last paycheck if I admit to have heard of problems.

May 18, 2016 2:03 PM in response to ShagCAby Feathers McGraw,I don't want to update my iPad Pro 9.7 until i hear it's OK.
Have all those iPad Pro 9.7 that have been 'bricked' all used OTA? Just wondering if direct connection via iTunes is safe.

May 18, 2016 2:10 PM in response to Bigwagon36by DocHPW,+1: Another one bites the dust. My iPad Pro 9.7 is dead after update to 9.3.2. No problems with 9.3.2: my iPad mini 3, iPad Pro 12.9, iPhone 6s+, iPhone 6, AppleTV 4.

May 18, 2016 2:14 PM in response to Feathers McGrawby Ducaticorse,Mine initially went to recovery during OTA update. When plugged in to recover and update it progresses 75% and then kicks the Error 56.
Personally, I would not do the update (whether OTA or wired) if I were a user with a properly functioning 9.3.1 iPad Pro 9.7, until there is some solution or correction in place. Especially given that the replacement iPads (at least in my case) are TBD for availability.

May 18, 2016 4:39 PM in response to Bigwagon36by jmi2,i was finally able to restore my iPad 3 from the last backup. i did the backup immediately before downloading the update as i usually do. it took one 4 hours because it 1st turned it into a brand new iPad and then synced downloading every single app, song, album, etc one at a time.
strangely when i checked the version on the iPad afterward it was 9.3.2 !!!! figure that one out......

May 19, 2016 8:14 AM in response to Bigwagon36by zimon22,does anyone know what to do now? how long do we have to wait to fix the problem? how are we going to know when there is an update?

May 19, 2016 8:25 AM in response to zimon22by Aliencowboy62,Supposedly an iOS update will be coming out at the Worldwide Developer's Conference in June. No news un a software fix as of yet. When my iPad crashed and error 56 I took it to the Apple store and they told me sorry hardware issue, we'll have to order a replacement. No compensation for my down time to lost files, as a matter of fact they have your sign a waiver of liability for any files on your crashed iPad. We are in the dark as is Apple employees, good luck.

May 19, 2016 12:39 PM in response to PaoloPeruby Matthias Kummer,Same here, 9.7 Pro Wifi 128 GB - learned about the issue too late how much did Apple spend on R&D last year again? and now they do not even have reliable quality control in place any more. Just sad. Who's gonna pay all those affected for the time they lose travelling to the nearest Apple store?

May 19, 2016 12:51 PM in response to Ducaticorseby Ducaticorse,As mentioned in my post yesterday, my iPad Pro 9.7 WiFi 128GB was also bricked during update. I took the iPad to the Apple Store yesterday and after replicating the failure on their in-store machine, they ordered me a warranty replacement. It arrived today and I picked it up a couple hours ago. I am in the process of restoring my backup now.
I recommend others who are having this issue also take their iPad Pro 9.7's in for replacement. I'm sure that a string of these hardware replace will garner someone's attention and may help spur along a correction for those out there who have not yet taken the update.

May 19, 2016 12:52 PM in response to zimon22by donaldfromridgway,Call Apple Support back and don't take "no" for an answer. The problem is either their faulty software or a manufacturing defect with the 9.7 iPad Pro. I had to keep pushing to get them to do something, but I'm losing productivity, time, money, etc. and it's an Apple problem, not mine. Their iOS update did this. Tell them you need a solution; keep asking for someone with more decision-making authority until you get someone who can help.
