Q: deleting iPhoto update once updated to El Capitan

I have updated to El Capitan and to Photos. I have no problems with that. All my pictures are there since I updated assign as I bought the computer last fall. However, the last update for iPhoto from March 2015 is in my App Store but it will not go through. I am happy using Photos and not going back to iPhoto. But how can one delete the upgrade for any app that came with the computer and then came unsupported from Apple? I don't want to have to delete Photos and lose my pictures.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

You can delete the iPhoto library - it is totally separate and deleting it has no effect on Photos - you may want to archive it first as a backup jjust in case

You can delete the iPhoto Application if you want although it is best to keep it since getting it back can be difficult or ipossible

It is not the pictures in the library or the Photo program that I want to delete. It is the update for iPhoto that showed up the after the el capitan update.

It is the update for iPhoto that showed up the after the el capitan update.

Do you mean the notification for this update at the App Store? If so, delete the App from your Mac, then you'll get no notification of the update.

Try to update iPhoto and then make a backup copy of iPhoto and delete it from your Mac.  The Updates tab of the AppStore does not work any more for iPhoto, but you can update it by reinstalling. Delete iPhoto from Applications, then download the newest versions from the "Purchases" tab of the App Store, not the Updates tab. If Spotlight i not seeing iPhoto installed, the App Store will show an "Install" button in the "Purchases" tab.  Even if you are now using Photos I'd try to keep a backup copy of the latest iPhoto version that will run on El Capitan. Just in case you ever need to repair an older iPhoto Library before you can open it in Photos.

But it won't let me actually run the update. It comes up with this message.

"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."

Well, this is my only apple ID so I don't know how to go about upgrading a program that I don't have and is not under my purchases.

You may be able to update it this way - Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

If you can not then just delete the iPhoto App from your applications folder and the update messages will stop
