Q: need instructions to revert to old itunes

I am still trying to revert to the older version of itunes. I installed a new itunes update. I have not saved my large collection of personal and itunes store -purchased songs lately, so I am in the "lurch". I am trying to copy an older library to the itunes folder, but I am not so certain that I am doing it in a correct manner. I need to be spoon-fed, please. I would really appreciate a really descriptive set of instructions of how to put the older itunes library file in the correct itunes folder. Thanks.

imac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Some of your terminology makes it unclear what exactly has gone wrong and to provide you with a correct solution.  "iTunes" is the application on your computer, nothing else (not a library, not media, not the iTunes Store, not...). Are you really wishing to revert iTunes version?  Why?  What is your reason for copying an older library to the iTunes folder?  I mean one library folder into another library folder. A "library" is an entire iTunes folder with many files and folders inside of it. There is a particular central file called iTunes Library.itl but that is called iTunes Library.itl, or "library file" not "library."

    Is this what you want?

use another osx drive and boot it. Trash the itunes in the OS X you want then empty trash and install iTunes. Once done make sure you repair permissions before launching the new install. Of course this means you have all software readily available.

Unless Apple has gone back and made things simpler again this procedure likely will not work.

First, of course, it requires you have a copy of the old iTunes installer. Apple keeps only a few old versions up for download and finding an older version installer is not always easy.

Second, There are several other files which get installed in obscure locations and these too would have to be downgraded. The installer might well refuse to install, saying there is a newer version installed.  This is where you have to follow a complicated set of instructions and use special software to revert iTunes versions.

Third, I don't know if this is even what the original poster wants or needs to do.  It isn't clear from the original post if the OP's library is showing up empty (the links I posted earlier should address that) or if the OP dislikes the interface.
