Q: multiple ibooks

Hi

First post here and after going through the forum I couldn't find an answer and someone can help me out with my problem.

I am fairly new with creating iBooks using iBooks Author and I have now created 3 different books that I exported as .ibooks format. Now I want to copy those ibooks to my iPad but somehow I can copy only 1 and the old one always gets overwritten.

Does this means that I can copy only 1 .ibooks file and if yes what do I need to do to get all of the ibooks onto my iPad. From what I also read that you can also create ePubs from your ibooks but you need to start directly with an ePub template from the start?

Thanks

Aydin

    Howdy Aydin,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

To export books you've created in iBooks Author to your iPad, then you will need to follow the steps outlined below:

    Export in iBooks format

    1. With the book open, choose Share > Export, and click iBooks.

    2. If you want to submit the file to the iBooks Store, click the disclosure triangle next to iBooks Store Options and follow the onscreen instructions.

    3. Click Next.

    4. Type a name for the book, choose a place to save it, and click Export.

To view the book in iBooks for iPad or iPhone, make sure you have latest versions of iBooks and iOS installed, and do one of the following:

    • Email the file and open it in Mail on an iPad or iPhone. Tap the file to open it.

    • Drag the book file (with the extension .ibooks) to the iTunes window and sync the book to your iPad or iPhone. For more information, see iTunes Help.

To view the book in iBooks for Mac, make sure you have the latest versions of iBooks and OS X installed, and do the following:

    • Drag the book file (with the extension .ibooks) to iBooks.

Export your book for iBooks or in another format

To export in ePub follow these directions:

    Export as an ePub document

If you created a book using an ePub template, you can export it to an ePub file.

    1. In the ePub template, choose Share > Export, then click ePub.

    2. Click Next.

    3. Type a name, choose a location for the file, and click Export.

If you have further questions about using iBooks Author, then I recommend you take a look at the iBooks Author help as linked to above.

    Take care.

    Hi Alex

Thank you for your response and help.

I know how to export to an ibooks format and get it on the iPad but that works only for 1 book. When i create another ibook and export it to my iPad the old one always get overwritten somehow. I am using iBooks author 2.3 and my mac version is 10.10.5 Yosemite

Thank you very much for your help and is there a way to convert an existing default template to an ePub template so we don't have to redo all the books.

    Thank you

    Hey Aydin,

It still sounds like you're trying to preview the books on your iPad via iBooks Author, rather than exporting them and syncing to it.

Back again and I have been searching again all over but somehow it doesn't work.

I have 4 books that I created, all in .ibooks format using iBooks Author 2.3 on Mac Mini using El Capitan 10.11.5, connected my iPad Air with IOS 9.3.2 to the Mac.

Opened iTunes and all showing correctly. Now I am trying to drag the 4 books (in .ibooks format) to the book section but nothing happens even I click the sync. I can't even sync pdf files

What am I doing wrong here?

    Thank you

So I just managed to copy the .ibooks files on a Windows machine:) but there is another problem.  I added the .ibooks through the "Add File To Library" in iTunes and when I hit Sync all books are getting synced and once finished only 1 book shows up. Somehow even if I copy 10 books I always end up with 1 book (always the same book)

This can happen when you try to create new ibooks by just copying an old one.  Best to start totally fresh.
