Q: Macbook Pro turns on by itself when screen is shut.

I got a Macbook Pro late 2011.

It's a pretty one and I am still using it. Over the years I've upgraded it to a new HDD from 0.5 to 1 TB, and also increased its RAM from 4 to 8 GB 1333 Ghz.

Usually I don't upgrade the OS X until I've received a recommendation from friends. However I increased the RAM when I had Mavericks on it, it worked like a charm for months until I upgraded it to Yosemite a year ago or so. Since then sometimes –maybe once out of ten times– when I shut the screen (not shut it down) and put it in my backpack it turns the fan on, it beeps three times, then pauses, and then it beeps three times again. The computer goes on this way until it completely depletes the battery, or until I realise it's doing it and I open it. In both cases, when I lift the display the Macbook Pro remains turned on with a black screen, so I see myself forced to shut it down by holding down the power button. The computer takes just a little bit longer to turn on than a usual off/on procedure. It reestablishes every document or application that was open before I closed the Mac.
I recently upgraded to El Capitan thinking that maybe the upgrade would solve the problem, and today it happened again, the 3 tones alarm has gone but the fan turned on again and when I opened it the black screen was there, so I turned it off and then back on. Everything seems to be fine, but the Macbook was super hot, and I'm afraid now the heat could damage the circuits. I've tried several times to run diagnosis, but it doesn't seem to work.

I haven't found any patron about when this happens or how to avoid it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time.

    Hello Hekman,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand from your post that your Mac is beeping 3 times, pauses, and beeps another 3 times.  This indicates there is an issue with the RAM installed on your Mac.  I suggest that you reinstall only the RAM that came with it to see if the issue persists.

    • 3 successive tones, a 5 second pause (repeating): This indicates RAM does not pass a data integrity check.
