I understand that you are having issues with the Avaya Webalive plugin through Safari. Let's see if we can figure out what is going on.
Now some plugin's do require that you have Java installed. Java can be downloaded at Oracle's site based on the information in the first article. I would download that and the test to see if the plugin works.

I would also recommend downloading the Java 6 runtime environment as well as enabling Java SE 6 plugin. Take a look at the next two articles for more details.
