May 19, 2016 12:53 PM in response to Aggieda1by Keith Barkley,Are you using a different computer to access it? Did you downgrade your computer from another version of El-Capitan? Did you try to repair your library?

May 19, 2016 12:55 PM in response to Aggieda1by léonie,Photos says i must upgrade photos before i can view my library. specifically my library is unsupported and from a newer version of photos.
What is the exact error message?
how is this possible if my library stored on my external hard rive and only accessed when I'm importing more photos.
Have you accessed this hard drive from a different Mac or a different user account?
Did you recently update your operating system? What happened before you could no longer access your Photos Library?

What version of the OS and of Photos do you have? What has changed since it worked correctly? Have you loaded any new software, beta software or reverted back to any old software? What is the exact, complet error message? Anything else you can think of that might have caused this?

May 19, 2016 2:07 PM in response to Aggieda1by léonie,If the Photos Library has been opened from a different Mac with a newer OS X version, make a current backup of your Mac and install the latest OS X update on your Mac; that will update Photos for Mac as well.
Then try to oen your Photos Library again. If Photos will prompt you to repair the library let it happen, because file ownership may have changed.

May 19, 2016 2:44 PM in response to Aggieda1by LarryHN,Since you are 5 updates behind a good start (and probably the solution) is to update to the current software - El Captain OS X 10.11.5 and Photos 1.5

May 19, 2016 3:55 PM in response to Aggieda1by Keith Barkley,It is generally a good idea to keep all the Macs in a household running the same OS version. Makes troubleshooting simpler. 8^)
