Keep in mind that you cannot re-use an email that is existing on a present Apple ID, and you have to initiate the full creation process of the ID at the time of selecting the free app that is marked "get".
Edit: One more thing - be sure you are signed out of whatever ID you have already created under Settings>iTunes & App Store.

That won't be a problem for the purpose of account creation or following the steps laid out in the article.

Maybe a screenshare would be helpful in this process. You can call AppleCare free of charge and they can set that up to walk through it with you. Obviously, we must be missing something, huh?

I tried for days to open an account in itunes and got the same message: "Your payment method cannot be processed right now. Try again later", although my payment method is the very old traditional VISA. What is happening?
