Shut down your computer. Then disconnect the iPod and do a Reset (restart) on it
Learn how to reset your iPod - Apple Support (see section iPod with a click wheel)
Start up your computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod. Try syncing again. If the same problem recurs, please post back with any additional details.
