Q: Classroom APP

Hello everyone,

Is the new app "Classroom" compatible with all Apple TV ?

  I got 80 Apple TV generation 3, bought in 2013. (AppleTV3,2)

    Only ATV 4 is compatible with apps.

    Hi - we have both Gen 2 & Gen 3 Apple TV units.  Classroom works with both of them.  The one issue that we're having is that we don't provide pins or passwords to student iPads to prevent them from hijacking the apple TV with airplay.  We normally use passwords and authorizations via the MDM to provide access.  But if you use the teacher "classroom" app to tell a student's iPad to use airplay to display their screen, it requires the Atv password to be entered on the student's iPad.  The iPad remains authorized after the teacher turns off the airplay on the student iPad; and the student can reinstate their connection at any time.

     

    To me, it seems that the classroom app from the teacher's iPad should provide the airplay authorization for the student iPad.  When the teacher disables the student iPad's airplay, the student's device should no longer have the ability to connect via airplay.

    Rysz was likely thinking that you were referring to a tvOS app that actually runs on the Apple TV, but the Classroom app for iPad uses AirPlay to display content on the Apple TV, as opposed to a native Apple TV app. So yes, it will work with older Apple TVs.
