Q: File Sharing not working in 10.11.5

I just upgraded a Mac Mini to 10.11.5 and after years of no issues now I'm having file and printer sharing issues.
They are showing they are shared on the system but the computer does not show on the network for the other computers to connect to it.
I tried resetting the shared folders up from scratch, I've tried accessing it through different systems nothing.
The firewall to the system is turned off and there are no other AV or Firewall programs running.
No one can see it on a Mac or PC.
This is a critical issue for me because of the 200+ users that access it during the week.

Any suggestions would be appreciated but it appears network shares is a bug in 10.11.5 from the various post I'm seeing.

Thanks in advance.

Read through this Apple Knowledge Base article and see if there is something you are missing, especially the "Tips"section at the bottom of the article...

As a follow up to my previous post. I didn't realize that in Settings>Energy Saver you can check the box to automatically power up after a power failure. I would not recommend this setting because if the power goes out there was a reason and it might not be a good one like a surge or brown out. I would also defer to Specmedia who has offered a terminal solution to power up and off at specific times.

I am having no problem file sharing and printer sharing between Macs running 10.11.5. There must be an issue with your configuration.

I'm going to try a few more things today and if that doesn't fix it I may have to do a wipe and reinstall.

Are you using Server.app? I've been having intermittent problems with file and print shares not "declaring" themselves. It seems to be a Bonjour discovery issue: There's nothing in the Finder sidebar, but I can connect using smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (the IP address of the file server). Similarly, System Prefs doesn't detect the print share, but I can print using Internet Printing Protocol, which again uses the IP address of the print server.

See if you can connect using IP addresses. Then create an alias to the shared volume, and you won't have to remember the number.

The issue has been going on for some time, not just 10.11.5. I think Server app is to blame, possibly some aspect of it is interfering with mDNS.

It's a program called PaperCut which is a printer sharing program and payment system.
I'm going to contact them to be sure it isn't an issue they know of.

Worth mentioning for the Mac clients anyway — in Finder Preferences, Connected Servers must be checked in the General and Sidebar tabs, before one sees a Shared section at the bottom of their Finder window Favorites — that contains the File sharing server name.

This sounds more like a network issue than a File/Print sharing issue. If the affected computer connects to the network using Wi-Fi make sure that it is connecting to the proper network. If it is connecting using Ethernet, double check the network settings to make sure they did not change during the update.
