Q: Transferring music from iPod classic to iMac

I have lost my iTunes library, but have everything stored on my iPod classic I would like to know how to transfer it over to my iMac using El Capitan 10.11.5,  and iTunes 12.4.0 .119. I don't even have the option of being able to back up my iPod classic, I can back up my iPad and my iPod touch. Help

See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash and/or Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Note device backups don't copy off non-store media but there are tools for that in the second link.

I guess what I'll need is to recover my iTunes library, from my iPod classic. I looked at your list of software by third-party and saw the date when it was posted. By any chance  do you have an updated list so I know for sure that the software that I'm getting will work with iTunes 12.4 and El Capitan operating system?

No, but I'd generally recommend the manual method in the last link if you're happy to follow instructions and don't need the ability to repeatedly copy off individual items.

I may be wrong but the last link looks a lot like a Windows operating system and not a Mac, but anyhow is there a way that I could just copy my  Music files from my iPod classic to a flash drive just so I have a Nother copy of my music,. Not necessarily in a iTunes library

I was referring to the iLounge Article. Basically you dive down into some hidden folders on the device, copy everything out to a new drive, and make sure the items are no longer hidden or set as read only. At this point the tracks are in a bunch of F## folders with random four-character filenames. You can use iTunes or some other application to reorganize them into more sensible artist and album folders. Given that you'll usually need iTunes to load up an Apple device it might as well be iTunes. If you reclaim this media into a new library made on a portable drive you can keep the data off your computer and the library will work when connected to any computer running the same build of iTunes. (See Make a split library portable for more on self-contained libraries.)
