Q: I have OS X 10.8.5. My safari says 6.2.8. I thought I just upgraded to El Capitan, but my Safari is still old. How can I get the newer version?

I have OS X 10.8.5. My safari says 6.2.8. I thought I just upgraded to El Capitan. When I go to the updates page it says El Capitan is downloaded. But why do I have old safari? How can I get the newest safari?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

    Safari 9.1.1 came with El Capitan installation.

    Downloaded doesn't mean installed.  Check your Applications folder to see if the installer for OS X El Capitan is in it.  If so, double-click on it to start the installation.

    Hi..

     

    To see exactly which OS X is installed on your Mac click your Apple  menu top left in your screen.

     

    From the drop down menu click: About This Mac

     

    Make sure the Overview tab is selected.

     

    OS X (name) and version number are noted there as well as the amount of memory installed.


    OS X El Capitan requires an iMac (Mid 2007 or newer), at least 2GB's of memory, and 8.8 GB's of storage space.

     

    Upgrade to OS X El Capitan
