Q: Why is my hard drive not showing up at all?

Hello, on my MacBook Pro 2012, I was using it this morning, then when I went to use it this afternoon, the computer was off. When I started up I got the folder with the question mark. After booting in Recovery Mode, my startup disk isn't showing up at all in the program where I can select my startup disk, and it's also not showing up in disk utility. What should I do now to fix this? Is my hard drive bad? I appreciate all the help I can get. I have also have a Windows 7 side on my hard drive as well. Thanks.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Whew, tough one, do you have another Mac with Firewire or Thunderbolt?

See mount section in 1st linked article. If that works, repair the disk using Disk Utility and see if it will restart. If it won't restart, remount the drive using Terminal,and boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair Disk and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then re-install the OS.
