Q: photos from iphone stopped migrating to iphoto

Last week, Comcast switched my e-mail account from a POP account to an IMAP account. This created a lot problems with mac mail such complete and irreversible loss of my inbox. Between visits to the Genius Bar and calls to Comcast tech support in order to properly save my mac mail folders and subfolders I have lost the ability to have photos taken with my iphone migrate to iphoto. How do I trouble shoot this issues? Thanx

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:

    - What version of iPhoto.

    - What version of the Operating System.

    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.

    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?

    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.

    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?

Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

    Version of iPhoto: 9.5.1

    Version of OS: 10.9.5

Photos taken with iPhone last Sunday at the Apple store, after visit #2 with the Genius. Those photos migrated nicely to iPhoto in less than 24h.

There has been a lot of Genius activity regarding the mac mail recovery of folders and subfolders so I presently have 2 Comcast accounts on the Macbook pro: one POP and the the new IMAP. Since the last Genius visit on Wednesday, the photos stopped migrating. We were afraid to delete the POP account until I finish restoring all my folders and subfolders in Mac mail and backing them up in the parallel folders in the Comcast server.

I have made sure that on the iPhone Settings under iCloud Library, that the button is on, so is Optimize iPhone Storage, Upload my photo stream,, iCloud sharing, Summarize Photos and Keep Normal Photo.

    Nothing else different.

I was talking about the settings on my iPhone. For the last few years, since I got an iPhone, photos taken with the phone have been appearing fairly seamlesly in iPhoto. I assumed the photos were going from the phone to the cloud and from the cloud to my laptop. That was my simplistic understanding of the process. Also, photos taken with my camera, and uploaded to iPhoto, appeared on my iPhone. I never "set" anything up initially. It just started to happen once I introduced the iPhone and set up iCloud. Am I missing something here? A fact that I could never fully understand, is that the photo library in the phone, at times eliminates older photos and keeps only the more recent photos in its memory. I have about 6500 photos in iPhoto, which I have been using for about 10 years, but only about 450 in the phone (oldest one is June 2014).

You've been using Photo Streams, at a guess. make sure they've not been disabled.
