Q: My iphone 6 is stuck on headphones mode.

I hadn't used the headphones before this happened. I've tried cleaning out the jack with a match (it looks very clean) and plugging the headphones in and out several times whilst watching a video. Neither worked.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

iPhone 6, iOS 8, 1 day old.

Try putting plug in and out seven times. It worked for me.

    Hello patrickfromnewbridge,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

From your post, I understand that your iPhone 6 seems to think your headphones are connected to it when they are not. We know that this type of situation can be frustrating, but we’re here to help!

If your headphones aren't detected or your device gets stuck in headphone mode, please review the following article if you haven’t done so:

If your headphones don't work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

    Cheers!

Patrick I hope this has worked for you and is fixed already, but anyone else reading this, the quick fix seems to match up with what Windows users have learned a long time ago. "When in doubt, restart."

Except in this case, it's not just powering down your phone. You need to press and hold the home button and power button at the exact same time (like you're about to take a screenshot, except don't let go right away) and keep holding it for approximately 10 seconds. At that point your screen will go black. Wait a few seconds, press and hold the power button and the phone will power up again. This is considered a "hard restart". It fixed the problem immediately on my phone. For reference, I have the iPhone 6s Plus.

Good luck everyone. And PS... It's a good idea to do a hard restart every few months or so.  It clears up any excess data, or cookies left behind by all the apps or websites, etc. I learned this trick from a friend of mine's son who works at the Apple Store. I had a problem with the iPad it froze up and wouldn't start up, from the powered down state, I pressed and held the home and power buttons at the same time, and it worked. This is something that unfortunately we don't all know about.

Tried absolutely everything and the simple tweak of shutting it down in airplane mode worked for me.  Thanks!!

This worked for me!!! Thank you!!!!

    Great fix, worked immediately!

    1) have someone call you, 2) turn on to speaker mode, 3)turn off the speaker, 4) plug in your headphone, 5) un-plug headphone.

I had this problem today with my iPhone 6, and I tried everything (cleaning the jack, reseting the network, reboot the iPhone).

After one hour, expecting to have to go to an Apple Store, I tryed an ultimate idea : kill all the application, and reboot the iPhone (pushing home button and lock button together during 10s) : MIRACLE ! The problem is solved.

As I didn't touch the connector during the operation, I'm pretty sure that there is a software problem. Since the last update (iOS 9.3.2), my device is not very stable... I hope this app reset and reboot will help.

My simple solution is just switch the mute button, increase/ decrease volume button. Headphone mode will change back to ringer. Switch off mute button.

I tried all the options listed here as well as on you tube and google searches.  Nothing worked.  Jenns post about signing into icloud and used find my iphone.  Clicked on play a sound once it found it and it actually worked.  I've only been working on this for 4 hours!  Thanks Jenn!!!
