Q: Can't add my personal payment info without permission from family organizer?

I have a couple of iTunes gift cards which I redeemed in the store. However, I couldn't purchase anything until my credit card information was up to date. This seemed silly because I was using gift cards anyway, but I went ahead and attempted to update my credit card information.

However, when I tried to do so, I was not allowed to. I am part of a Family Sharing group in iCloud, and a message popped up saying that I couldn't add my own credit card without the "Family Organizer" allowing it.

I am an adult with my own credit card and income. Am I the only one who finds this feature ridiculous? I've done some searching and haven't found anyone else who's had this issue. I should be able to update my credit card information and still be in a family sharing group, without having to call my relative to put in my credit card information for me. Is there a way around this? I mean, I could get the Family Organizer to do it, but it just seems kind of ridiculous seeing that I am an adult.

If you have your own credit card and income, why are you under a family sharing group that has the organizer controlling. The family group can be set up that does not require strict restrictions on family members.

This doesn't answer my question. A family member purchased apple music as a gift for everyone and we got sharing so we could all use it. Maybe you could tell me how to loosen the restrictions instead of coming out with snarky comments?

I'm sorry, but I don't see anything in my comments that are snarky. You also did not indicate that you were using Apple Music Family Plan. See this support document, Set up Family Sharing - Apple Support and have the family organizer turn off Ask to Buy for the family members.

Ask to Buy is not turned on for any of the family members. I just can't add my own credit card information.

I suggest you contact iTunes support then. You should be able to enter the iTunes gift cards, I just know that you cannot purchase with your own credit card when you are in a Family Sharing situation, that is why the family organizer has to have a credit card. However, users with a credit balance with gift cards are supposed to be able to make purchases with the gift cards. They should be able to assist you.  https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
