Q: restore apple tv 4

Today when I turned on my apple TV 4 shows message to restore. My problem is that I haven't required USB-C cable to restore with Itunes. I did not understood why such expensive product requires a cable to restore that is not in the box. Is there a way to restore without this cable ? Is there expensive cable too.

I'm very disappointed not use my Apple TV.

If at all possible, I would take it to an Apple Store and have them do it.  If you just bought it, I would just ask for a replacement.  You should not need to do this normally and some how your ATV operating system became corrupt to the point of not even starting up.

Be careful because buying the right cable appears to be a nightmare since there are a whole variety of USB C cables and you probably need a USB A to USB C cable but it also needs to be data capable as they sell ones that charge only.

    Hi

    Have you tried to restore over your WiFi ?

    Reset back to factory settings small hole at the back press in with paper clip ?

    Or use Ethernet cable if you are close to router .

    Ignore the advise by Briansyddall. He is mistaken, there is no reset button that can be used with a paperclip on the back of the Apple TV.

     

    Unfortunately, unless you have access to the user interface so you can access the settings of the Apple TV you will have to buy a USB-C cable to reset it using iTunes.

     

    I agree, they shipped it with a Lightening cable to charge the remote, they should have just put a Lightening port on the back to use to reset it.
